Why Utkal Project exists

A deeper connection
to a place we share.

Rediscover Utkal. Reimagine Odisha.

Utkal Project is a growing encyclopedia of Odisha’s people, places, culture and ideas. We want to make knowledge easier to discover, connect people with their heritage, and help thoughtful possibilities for Odisha take shape.

Know the place. Listen to the people.

We begin with traceable research, careful attribution and room for correction. Over time, photographs, local knowledge, language, family histories and accounts of migration and trade can make the collection richer. Evidence, recollection and interpretation need to remain distinct.

A shared resource, built with care.

The project is for residents, the diaspora, learners, researchers and curious visitors. Its ambition is open participation, supported by careful editorial review.

Meet the founder.

Ahimanikya Satapathy founded Utkal Project to help people rediscover Odisha, connect with its heritage and imagine new possibilities for the state. Read about the founder →

How we prepare the knowledge

We use research sources, editorial judgment and AI-assisted tools to organize and develop material. Sources, uncertainty and review status are shown with each entry. Corrections help the record grow.

The encyclopedia’s editorial decisions are independent of commercial membership or payment. Associated initiatives will have their own purposes and governance.
