Start with curiosity

Find a story.
Make it a journey.

Begin with the five city-and-coast stories, a Chilika shore, a meal or a place to base yourself. Choose the order that suits your curiosity.

01 · Discover

Follow what draws you.

Search the collection, choose a topic or narrow it to a region. Prefer a familiar name? Some entries also recognise alternate names and Odia spellings. Switch to alphabetical order when you know what you’re looking for.

02 · Connect

Look beyond the landmark.

Follow the city-and-coast stories, or explore Chilika through a place, an experience and a stay area. Make room for a meal along the way. Sources and photograph credits are gathered at the end of each page. A legend tells us about belief; it is not automatically a historical fact.

03 · Collect

Keep an idea for later.

Use “Save to my journey” on an entry. In My journey, create separate trips, add dates and notes, and arrange ideas into days. Your journeys live only in this browser; download a backup if you want to keep an editable copy.

Arrange days, notes and different versions

Search within saved titles and your own notes; that search stays on your device. Duplicate a trip to try another version. Moving an idea to another journey keeps its notes and puts it under Ideas for later. Copy keeps the original as well. Use Arrange whole days to add a day or shift the planned days. Give a day its own title and private notes, even when you want to leave it free of stops. Moving a day’s ideas keeps its day notes where they were; shifting days moves their notes too. Undo is available until another edit changes the plan.

Prepare and combine your ideas

In Before you go, write personal reminders or pick questions from your saved coastal guides. Edit the wording, mark your own progress and undo a removed reminder. These are your ticks, not confirmation by Utkal.

Import a backup as an independent journey to preserve all its details. Or add only new ideas to your selected journey: existing ideas and notes stay as they are, new ideas go to Ideas for later with their item notes. The source’s date, day notes, reminders and checklist stay out of that merge. For a collection backup, select one source journey; replacing the entire collection is a separate, acknowledged action.

04 · Carry

Take the research with you.

Download an offline book to read without a connection, or choose the edition with selected photographs. Links still need the internet. Choose whether to include private notes before sharing. Clearing browser data removes saved journeys, so keep a downloaded backup.

Book options, backups and restoring a journey

Links still need the internet. Visit-notebook prompts travel with their linked ideas. Choose whether your book includes personal notes, including day titles, day notes and personal reminders; leaving them out does not erase the saved originals. Choose the whole journey, one day or Ideas for later. A day copy keeps its original number and date; preparation and reminders remain trip-wide. A plain-text itinerary is also available for easy copying. Export a JSON backup to keep an editable copy. Use the current Utkal site to restore day notes and reminders; older versions may discard these optional fields. Your journeys live only in this browser; clearing browser data removes them. If another tab changes a journey, export any unsaved work and reload before continuing.

These are personal research plans, not bookings or checked routes. Confirm opening times, transport, access and availability with the relevant provider before travelling.

05 · Contribute

Add what you know.

Suggest a correction, a recollection or a new subject. Prepare and download a draft locally, then choose whether to post it as a public GitHub issue. Include a source or explain your firsthand knowledge. Editors review submissions before they become encyclopedia content.

This is a preview collection. Local voices, careful corrections and time will make it richer. Tell us whose story is missing, where a description needs care, or which useful detail would make a visit easier.

Why we’re building Utkal →

Your visits. Your choice.

Your journeys and contribution drafts are stored in this browser. Nothing is submitted until you choose to post a public GitHub issue. Downloaded books can contain your private notes, depending on your export choice.

When optional Google Analytics is enabled on our public coastal preview, we ask before loading it. It measures public page visits and basic visit activity using cookies and browser information. We do not send your journey contents, search words, contribution drafts, URL query strings or fragments. Advertising features and automatic interaction measurement are disabled. Our review previews and offline books do not collect analytics.

Use the Cookie preferences button here to allow or decline collection. You can return here through Privacy in the footer. Declining stops future collection from this browser and removes its analytics cookies; it does not delete data already received by Google. Your choice is remembered in this browser. If browser storage is unavailable, the choice applies to the current page only.
